Brief description of My Years as an Alzheimer’s Caregiver: transcending loss by nurturing spirit, by Lyla Yastion:

When Lyla’s husband of 54 years of marriage died of Alzheimer’s disease, she felt impelled to write a book that might help fellow caregivers. Lyla was her husband’s sole caregiver for six years. In this moving account, Lyla captures the struggles but also the bright moments of joy and intimacy she and her husband shared as they navigated the daily challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. The book is unique in its approach. Lyla weaves together the science of Alzheimer’s disease, a spiritual teaching of transcendence, and journal entries that bring to life the day-to-day reality of living with Alzheimer’s. The major lesson that Lyla learned is this: even as the body fails, the spirit can be nourished.
